John Ortberg spoke of many excellent points in this video, here are some thoughts on a few of them. Make sure and listen to the video. For all of those out there that are aging into the second half of your life the following video and book would further your understanding. - Andy

Being Right All the Time?

Does your ego tell you you must be right all the time?

Do you FEEL you must be the best at what you do even as you age and lose your competencies and abilities?

Be Renewed from the Inside

Your only source of knowledge, strength and spiritual understanding is through Christ and the Person of the Holy Spirit. So get off the internet, stop looking for self-help on Twitter go to your Lord!

Resist the impulse to PRIDE from your own thoughts or information you get elsewhere.

Are you IGNORANT of the facts? Do you just claim something is true?

Do you allow your DESIRES to guide your thinking?

STOP TRYING TO PROVE YOU ARE ALWAYS RIGHT, MAKE THAT A RULE OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!

Be Very Careful of the Images You Allow into Your Mind

"The images that we admit into our minds these may be images of intellectual authority images of financial well-being, images of power, images of sexuality but he says if we allow everything access to our mind we are simply asking to be kept in a state of mental turmoil or bondage and then this for nothing enters the mind without having an effect for good or evil.." from the transcript.

Making Others Feel Special is Part of Our Calling in Christ

We must be Humble!

We must repent of our arrogance!

We are smart because God allows us to be so, not because of anything you have done. You did not create yourself. You are the finite creature, God is infinite an your creator.

learn to be humble and find the specialness of others and let them know you care and are there to help.

From Strength to Strength a Conversation with Arthur C. Brooks

"The Institute for Humane Studies held a conversation on March 10 at 3:30 PM Eastern with bestselling author, columnist, and Harvard professor, Arthur C. Brooks, about his new book From Strength to Strength: Finding Success, Happiness, and Deep Purpose in the Second Half of Life (Penguin Random House, 2022). From Strength to Strength draws on Arthur’s social science research and personal experiences to help us reframe our understanding of aging – turning a natural process of decline into an opportunity for professional transformation, personal growth, and spiritual fulfillment. The Institute for Humane Studies supports and partners with professors to promote the teaching and research of classical liberal ideas and to advance higher education’s core purpose of intellectual discovery and human progress." from video introduction.
