Our Sick American Soul & The Sins Destroying Our Nation

Jeremiah 17:9
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
In recent years we have seen, felt and witnessed the moral decline of US, the citizens of America.
The "American Citizen" is on life support, near death.
Always looking for someone or something to blame like the recent events of the pandemic, political turmoil, church failures, and a host of other circumstances have been offered up as reasons we are in moral free fall.
But as Christians we should see and realize that it is OUR SIN that is expressing itself in our society.
The results of a recent Wall Street Journal poll is not shocking but is nevertheless disheartening.
If we go back to the same poll in 1998, 70 percent of respondents said patriotism was very important and 62 percent said the same thing about religion. Today's poll reports it’s only 38 percent and 39 percent. And what about having children? We see a drop from 59 percent to 30 percent. Community involvement goes from 62 percent to 27 percent.
The biggest declines in American's values seem to have occurred in the last five years.
Some of the symptoms and expressions of our sins include pride and selfishness. How selfish are you? In our militant individualism we have moved away from loyalty to anything beyond the own self. In the wealtheist nation in history we lack of gratitude for the good gifts of our earthly citizenship. We also show a loss of love for our neighbors.
Our secular materialistic worldview has made religion and faith unimportant. We have given up on the transcendence of the ultimate reality as we find no significance beyond the present moment.
Authentic American citizens are hard to find as we have permitted/chosen a loss of community. We value the “freedom” that comes from being by ourselves more than the obligations that come with deep and sustaining friendships and relationships.
Our culture along with many other cultures around the world has decided that children are unimportant and optional. We no longer look to the future and we are no longer able/willing to endure the burdens of raising and training the next generation.
The path we have chosen as a people leads to isolation, alienation from each other and loneliness. It diminishes our humanity. We must be drawn out of ourselves as we give away our lives in self-giving love. It is through our selfless love we find joy in God and in others.
God will someday allow America to fall into ruin. How and when He allows that is not our concern. right now we must be in prayer and repentance allowing the person of the Holy Spirit to work in us. Only then can our selfishness be healed as our hard hearts experience the fullness and wholeness of loving God and our neighbors.
