"Nellie Balfour is a pediatric doctor in South Africa dedicated to helping people in the public health care system. Studying medicine and using her skills to heal people made sense to her. Faith and prayer came less naturally. But her mother’s prayers carried her through when Nellie had reached her limit at the height of the pandemic. Nellie’s hospital faced lack of resources and staff shortages that made it impossible to care for patients properly. Nellie said, “Helpless is the perfect word to describe it [her feelings].” Nellie’s mom faithfully prayed for her and her work, and eventually Nellie began to embrace her faith at a much deeper level.
