2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Our culture has become shallow and ignorant. We smugly boast about our lack of wisdom/knowledge or the perceived idea that "nothing" really matters. We discount people with years of experience and knowledge because we disagree with them.
We are indeed failing as a nation and a culture. Good is called evil and evil is called good!
Many Christians have also bought into this irrational and often evil social anarchy, if it seems to satisfy their needs.
This requires Christians to pray, confess and repent now more than ever!
We must be willing to think deeply.
American Evangelicals have abandoned the universities to the liberals and elites. We have also abandoned high culture and the arts.
Christianity has since its inception led the way in deep thinking, justice and compassion, now we have abandoned all of these things.
The Cult of Trump represents a growing segment of our population that waves the flag of Christ but actually ignores Him completely. Ignorance and grievance have become the baseline for our irrational behavior while we whine and complain about everything. We lack a grateful spirit.
When We Don't Have God as the Reference for All Things in Life We Fail
When a society like ours rejects the belief that all human life has been created by God, the value of life is increasingly determined by other things like usefulness, enjoyment, awareness, entertainment value etc.
Francis Schaeffer once said, if humanity is not made in the image of God, nothing stands in the way of inhumanity.
So we have things like abortion as a consumer choice, a matter of convenience and pornography that we might use someone else's body as a means of our personal gratification.
When we don't keep God as the measure of all things we become the measure and we measure with our sinful and selfish desires.
Secular thought has separated Christianity from the intellectual and thought life of American culture so deeply that most Christians fail to put God in front of anything.
Christ is the Smartest Man to Ever Live
We must follow Christ in all aspects of our lives, where we live and work. Have you considered that the smartest man in your field is Christ? He is sovereign, he knows all and sees all, there is no human endeavor that he does not know of fully and completely.
So when we compartmentalize our Lord and exclude him from what we do in life we diminish our faith and relationship with Him.
Learn to honor Christ in your work, in your home in all of your life!
Seek him, seek his wisdom, his discernment. Speak to him often!
