Joy in Christ's Presence & Not Your Present Circumstances

Christ's Presence

If all of our needs were met in an instant we would not be happy! Deep down we know this.

You and I are chronically impatient and dissatisfied, our sin natures make us so.

No doubt there are many things that could make us happy for a brief time or needs that need to be met.

We are lamentable creatures and we take out our unhappiness on others, we perpetrate evil on others for at our core our hearts are wicked and depraved.

Our sin has been ingrained in us like the grooves on a record.

We often feel abandoned or ignored by God.

Through prayer and scripture we experience the presence of God.

Jeremiah 15:16

16 Your words were found, and I ate them,

and your words became to me a joy

and the delight of my heart,

for I am called by your name,

O LORD, God of hosts.

Scripture is God speaking to us and in doing so he reveals who he is so we can learn who we are. Scripture gives us a basis for talking to our living Lord. Christ, a physical human stands in heaven beside God the father and he hears you speak aloud or silently. Many of us Christians ignore him thinking he is a distant abstract figure, not really real. This lack of faith and imagination has eternal consequences. We ignore our Lord to our souls eternal peril!

Our salvation is a gift!

In Luke 15, Jesus tells three parables about joy found in salvation. He describes a shepherd finding his lost sheep ( 4–7), a woman calling her friends to “rejoice with me” when she finds her lost coin (8–10), and joy when a rebellious son returns to his father’s house (11–32).

There is no doubt for many of us our present circumstances are devastating and no mere words will sooth our souls. But mere words are not Christ. You must know him, seek him and cry out to him!!

There is no other way!
