Will You Humble Yourself?

Humble Yourself Before the Lord

1 Peter 3:8

8 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.

Humility comes from the hand of God as he initiates the humbling of his creatures. Once God has done this, Will you receive it and humble yourself in response to his humbling hand, or will you resist him?

Are you going to self-humble, give your will up to God or will you pridefully and arrogantly pursue your own desires?

Each day we face this possibility.

Just as with Pharaoh in the Book of Exodus God asks us, " How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me?

You see our relationship with Christ is a relationship with a person, a person who is totally aware of your hearts desires and your besetting sins. Our pride precedes us and the Person of the Holy Spirit either is working in you or is pushed back by your sins.

God will confront us in this life and He will humble us.

Our Lord made this clear in scripture during his incarnation.

Luke 14:11

11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Often that humbling comes when we reach the end of our rope. We have cancer or a heart attack of some other personal calamity, a death in the family etc. The fact becomes apparent in our suffering that we are not God.

Philippians 2:6-7

6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Our Lord knows all about humility above and beyond anything we can understand. Jesus’s emptying, Paul tells us, was not a losing but a taking: “taking the form of a servant.”

God the Son becomes man.

Humble Yourself Daily

Prepare yourself daily and weekly for God’s many humbling's that will come your way.

Humble yourself daily by his Holy Word and bow before him in prayer.

Humble yourself weekly by finding a church home with faithful preaching and submit yourself in covenant/committed fellowship.

God is not your last resort, He is the One you go to before any other!

Pray for God to keep you pure and Holy, from personal vanity, shallowness, from being ineffective, laboring in vain and/or walking away from Jesus. God’s humbling hand is a painful and merciful means of grace in sustaining and strengthening our souls.
