American Cults – How Americans Have Come to Worship Politicians

Video from UNM

In this video journalist Chris Hedges discuss the decline of America and the Cult of Trump.

The United States is in terminal decline and our elections, our party platforms, our politicians will not ultimately stop this fall into chaos.

The unrepentant yearnings among the white working class for vengeance and moral justification through violence along with the unchecked greed and corruption of the corporate world have led us down a rabbit hole we may never come out of.

Trump will be removed from office, yet the unrest will only be exacerbated as he inflames his followers toward a lust for racist violence and the intoxicating effects of white nationalism. Ruling elites will continue under Biden, as they did under Trump, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ronald Reagan, to gain more and more wealth at the expense of the population.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 says we are to “make it your ambition to lead a quiet life…

Our militarized police forces will not be able to stop the mob’s lethal rampages in poor neighborhoods. The bloated military budget will not be reduced as wars around the world will continue as they always have. We still have the world’s largest prison population which is a travesty in and of itself. Manufacturing jobs shipped overseas will not come back and social inequality will grow. The for-profit health care system will continue to extract money from the public as they price millions more out of the health care system.

Already the language of hate and bigotry has been normalized as the primary form of communication in America. Civility, courteous speech, and empathy are all but gone in public discourse. People who have come here to be Americans are now considered enemies, including Muslims, immigrants, and their dissidents, as they are defamed and attacked.

Romans 13:1 give a general command about government when it states, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.”

The hypermasculinity (of Trump to name one) of other cult like leaders and celebrity pastors/TV evangelists (that compensates for feelings of impotence) will get worse. Lies, conspiracy theories, entertainment, and fake news — referred to by Hannah Arendt as “nihilistic relativism” will continue to dominate the airwaves and social media, mocking all fact and truth.

Truth is dead for the most part.

So what do we do? Peaceful protest is your right, yet is it the most effective thing you can do?

1 Timothy 2:1-2 states “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 Paul states “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

You and I are not social justice warriors, we are children of God who have been instructed to share the good news of salvation by our words, our actions, and our love of and obedience to God.
