An Artistic Couple’s Extraordinary House Boat | HOUSE TOUR

"Today, Homeworthy is stepping aboard the Yankee Ferry, a 1907 Philadelphia built vessel with a life story as layered as the home inside it.

Once a luxury passenger ferry, the Yankee went on to serve in both World Wars, and later became one of the boats that carried immigrants from Ellis Island into New York City. Today, it is the last surviving Ellis Island ferry, and it is still floating right here in Manhattan.

In 2004, artists and designers Victoria and Richard MacKenzie Childs found the boat at Pier 25 and fell in love instantly, turning it into a wildly imaginative live and work space, part studio, part salon, part time capsule.

Every room is a patchwork of stories, hand made objects, collected treasures, and fearless pattern, all brought together with the same creative spirit that defined their work.

From the original passenger benches to the galley where daily life happens, the Yankee shows how a home can take shape anywhere—so long as it carries the people, memories, and traditions that make it yours." from the video introduction
