2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Are We a People without Self-Control?
Do you have self-control?
Everyday our “self” produces desires that should be “denied” or “controlled.”
“Who ever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23
Christ asks his first disciples to "deny themselves".
In our lives it does not take to many years for us to understand we must learn to maintain control over the beast of one’s own sinful passions. Many people do not in their lifetime develop self-control in fact many people are out of control through ongoing sin.
Is this you?
We all know there is the presence of something within us that needs to be bridled and controlled.
Self-control then involves both “control over one’s behavior and the impulses and emotions beneath it which includes our minds and emotions, not just our overt actions.
Many temptations come our way each day. To resist those temptations we need the strength of self-control. Each of us must realize the reason for our need is our deceitful hearts, and we must therefore live an intentional life focused on Christ which is necessary to cultivate this virtue.
Our lives are short, so we must not waste the precious time God has given us. Each of us must partner with the Holy Spirit to develop self-control in our lives. In time we begin to know and understand the freedom of the truly important things of life, anxiety, unhurried, steady, and at peace with our lives.
