Are We People of the Truth or the Tribe of Lies?
It continues to amaze me.
People I know who have chosen a convenient "lie" over the rational or transcendent truth of Christ.
I understand in our world of information overload it is just easier to accept some far fetched idea as a version of reality.
We are no doubt the most well informed people in history with all of the information available to us through the internet. Yet the curse of that has been we are confused and don't know how to sort it out. And on top of that we have our personal bias's about many subjects most of which seem to revolve around religion (I did not say Christianity!) and our nation.
I don't expect anyone reading this who has become obsessed with Qanon or The Cult of Trump or the Republican Tribe to change their minds. I am writing this to all of the Christians who are still connected to "Reality"! The obsession with Biden is no different, Left or Right , Up or Down it does not make a difference!
The radical life of our faith, of Christianity has always been deeply rooted in reality. The mystery of the Incarnation and the Kingdom of God was not implemented in conspiracy of lies. The people around Christ, the religious establishment and the fickle public all were involved in plots, lies and conspiracies and continued to make them up and even continue today to do so.
The amazing thing today is there are so many people who are willing to brush aside the reality of Christ and take up an evil and false narrative. God will allow us to select evil rulers that he will use for his purposes. And that is a punishment not a blessing. The obsession of many so called Christians with Trump or whomever else is a tribute to our evil hearts.
Then you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day. 1 Samuel 8:18 (NASB)
The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.” 1 Samuel 8:7
Are you seeking the truth of Christ over a tribe or political party?
The church in America has the foundation of truth in Scripture, and the Truth that liberates us is Jesus. Christ and the Bible is the only entirely true narrative! The narrative of Christ doesn’t spin reality but provides for us criteria for evaluating it and a lens for illuminating it.
Scripture, the church, God's creation around us is the only transcendent, time-tested, and tangible truth. Nothing else from social media, the internet or from the lips of a politician come close.
We have available Christian Scripture and Christian tradition to help us be people of reality in a world of false and evil narratives. Make use of these wisdom-shaping resources. Through the person of the Holy Spirit let Scripture drive your understanding of reality more than QAnon conspiracy theories or Trump. Learn to be shaped less by fleeting, viral narratives and more by the church’s 2,000-year tradition of reality.
