Book Minute: Christianity in Armenia
"Armenia is a small country with a rich Christian history going back to the fourth century—the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion! The Armenian Apostolic Church takes its name from the apostles Bartholomew and Thaddaeus, traditionally considered their founders. It was Mesrop, a fifth-century Christian monk who developed the Armenian alphabet. And the earliest examples of Armenia’s literary culture are translations of the Bible. Mesrop and others translated the book of Proverbs first, and completed the complete Bible around AD 410. Today, by constitutional amendment, the Armenian Apostolic Church is the national church of the Republic of Armenia, ”For the development . . . and preservation of the national identity of the people of Armenia.” from video introduction.
