Bono, Eugene Peterson, and the Psalms

"This short film documents the friendship between Bono (of the band U2) and Eugene Peterson (author of contemporary-language Bible translation The Message) revolving around their common interest in the Psalms. Based on interviews conducted by Fuller Seminary faculty member David Taylor and produced in association with Fourth Line Films, the film highlights in particular a conversation on the Psalms that took place between Bono, Peterson, and Taylor at Peterson’s Montana home."

Discipleship happens when we aren’t looking in the midst of everyday decisions and discussions.

Discipleship also happens as our kids watch us interact with the people and world around us..

Discipleship also happens within friendship and chance meetings as an “iron sharpens iron” kind of discipleship. Friendship is yet another context where discipleship happens.

“I think the Psalms are important,” Peterson says in the film, “because for some people, like me, at 12 years old, they showed me that imagination was a way to get inside the truth.

Bono replied. “The psalmist is brutally honest about the explosive joy that he’s feeling and the deep sorrow or confusion. And it’s that that sets the Psalms apart for me.”
