Born good? Babies Help Unlock the Origins of Morality

Can infants tell right from wrong? And if so, how would you know? Come to Yale's baby lab. Lesley Stahl reports.

Are we born good and bad? The Word of god tells us we are. Here are some scripture that indicate that.

Proverbs 22:15 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,

but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Psalm 51:5 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,

and in sin did my mother conceive me.

We are born sinners, and for that reason we are unable to do good in order to please God in our natural condition. It does not take great powers of observation to see small children express themselves in sinful selfish ways. And children violently killing other children reveal our inherent depravity as well.

Because we are born sinners, we must have a second, spiritual birth. We are born into Adam’s family and are sinners by nature, by the flesh. When we are born again (spiritually), we are born into God’s family and receive the nature of Christ. We praise the Lord that “to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —children born not of natural descent . . . but born of God” John 1:12–13.
