Breaking Free of Our Christian Fantasy

Breaking Free of Our Christian Fantasy

Are you living in a Christian fantasy?

By that I mean is your Christian life only mental, do you think thoughts about prayer equals praying or that remorse equals repentance?

Hearing God's word is not equal to doing it.

This has been with us sinners from the beginning and we only need to look bay to the Sadducees and Pharisees of Jesus day to see people who thought their thoughts about Holiness equaled holiness.

If we only watch church we might easily slip into the fantasy of thinking we are discipling for Christ.

Faith for us rebels has always been difficult. We must be intentional and we have the free will to be intentional. Remembering it is God that gives us the gift of salvation and nothing we do or can do makes any difference.

So I ask you to be reflective. Are you living in a fantasy?

The Christian Way of Life is total immersion in Christ from the time we wake up until we go to sleep. Sunday church attendance wont get it or occasional bible reading wont get it.

D.A. Carson said it well: "We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated." from The Love of God

It is obvious the scribes and Pharisees that persecuted Jesus suffered from a spiritual delusion. They convinced themselves they knew God, they fasted, prayed and they tithed. They were teachers. The reality was they denied the kingdom to many people. They were very much into showing their holiness but actually were defiled on the inside. They created disciples for hell and gleefully killed the Lord of glory, hating him without reason.

The Christian life is the reality of day by day, “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). If we truly look, if we actually speak to him as the person he is we begin to see how weak and needful of his grace we are.

His love bore God the Father's wrath on our behalf, his kindness even today repays our treason with love. Have you really prayed and spoken to him, and had a conversation pouring out you heart, your frustrations, your sorrows?

2 Corinthians 3:18

18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

So today don't wait, if your Christian life is mere fantasy pray and speak to your Lord, he waits for you!

2 Corinthian 3:15

5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
