Darryl Strawberry Shares His Testimony Of Redemption In Prison
'On July 19, 2023, former Major League Baseball star and four-time champ Darryl Strawberry teamed up with Prison Fellowship to bring a message of hope and encouragement to the residents of Boonville Correctional Center in Boonville, Missouri.
Strawberry was a star player for the New York Mets and Yankees in the 1980s and 90s before his career was derailed by drug addiction and incarceration. At Boonville, he shared with the men about his life struggles and how he came to find true peace through a relationship with Jesus Christ. “Wearing a uniform just covered up the wounds and the scars of who I was,” he said about his life before finding God.
The formerly notorious athlete, who had several run-ins with the law and suspensions during his baseball career, spoke about the gift of God’s grace and second chances. Strawberry is now an ordained preacher who travels the country preaching the Gospel.
