Fate vs Faith: Make a Choice and Leave the Rest to God
“Faith” by Webster’s dictionary is the “strong belief or trust in someone or something.” Faith in the context of our Father, our creator is that he will help us through any circumstance based on his all-encompassing providence and sovereignty. We must trust him.
Fate in pagan Mythology is the Moirae (the allotters), or the Fates; Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos were the daughters of Zeus. The three Sisters of Fate, Lachesis, Atropos, and Clotho, determined the fates of every mortal, God, and Titan. Fate and destiny are considered one and the same by many cultures.
Right now, around the world and in our country, there is great indecision and vacillation. What choice do we make, what is the best course of action? Whether it be about returning to school or some other Covid related matter a choice must be made.
Regarding for example returning to school the options are different for everyone. Some will find it necessary to return to online learning or a combination of physical attendance, but we must choose.
Often, we as Christians pray to God and offer up our choice on a matter and then expect God to give it the stamp of approval and help make it happen. The Perfect Almighty God of creation does not work that way. Yes God the Father is personal, and Christ is there to intercede for us and the Person of the Holy Spirit also is at work in the world, but all three in one operate out of their attributes which includes all knowledge and wisdom. God may choose another way, a different set of circumstances that we could not imagine.
Faith and prayer not fate govern our outlook on life.
As Christians, we must have an attitude of grace toward all of those around us in all the many difficult scenarios.
We must learn to pray for wisdom without fear or anxiety. Faith requires we believe that God will guide and help us. He has in the past and he will now.
God's purpose cannot be thwarted!
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5–8)
