Flee youthful Lust, Flee fleshly Lust - Rev. Billy Graham

Video from Jesus Blesses TV

In this vintage clip from Rev. Billy Graham he speak to our old adversary lust.

Lust! We as fallen humans have a problem with lust. Not just sexual lust but lusts of all kinds for all things. But the one that seems to cause humanity so much grief and evil is sexual lust.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” Matt. 5:27–28.

Lust is not exclusive to men but men commit many crimes and sins against women in the name of lust. What Jesus is saying is that she is so precious and valuable; she has sexual dignity, which should be honored by everyone else. This sexual dignity is so valued by Jesus that it must not be violated, even in the privacy of someone else’s mind.

Our thoughts are not private. God knows every thought you have, sinful, evil or otherwise.

We are all convicted!

Adultery happens in the heart before it happens in the bed. So adultery is not just about what we do with our genitals, but mainly what we do with our eyes and our minds. Lust concerns our attitude, thought life, not just our physical actions. By Jesus’s standards, none of us is innocent. So all of us should flee lust, flee temptation, flee pornography.

A physical violation of someone is wicked, damaging while a sexual violation leaves even deeper wounds. Sexual assault and injury is not the same thing as a cut finger. Our sexuality gets to the very heart and intimacy of our personhood. This is why Jesus is so protective of it.

A one-flesh union between and a man/woman can produce new life but it can reflect something far greater: our union and relationship with Christ.
