Generational Curses and Demonic Strongholds

"Generational Curses and demonic strongholds In this episode, we will discuss 3 primary subjects. 1) What is the most common teaching of generational curses 2) Is there any validity to sin temptations being transmitted through the family line 3) Is there any validity to demonic bondage being transmitted through the family line Often times (not always) Generational curses are defined as "a negative pattern manifesting in you, and or, your family due to demonic activity that was granted access by the unrepentant sins of your ancestors". However, there is a major problem with this definition. There is no mention of demons in the "typical generational curse" proof texts. In Numbers 14:17-18 and Exodus 20:4-6 we find God is the one bringing the curse not demons. Why is God cursing man? Well, Scripture tells us that we are cursed if we do not abide by everything written in the Law. So by breaking God's law we are placed under a curse from God. "But what about the Christian?" you may ask. Well, Christ took our place and became a curse for us that the curse of the Lay may be removed from us. Praise God! But now we get into the nitty-gritty of it all. Is there a demonic activity that can be transmitted generationally? Can our habitual unrepented sins, somehow be transmitted to our children? Well if you want to know that you will have to watch the video. Hope you guys all enjoy it." from video introduction

What is a Generational Curse?:

"Generational curses are behaviors we adopt because of the environment we are brought up in. Addictions and abuses can influence our behavior, but ultimately, we all have the choice to shake off those chains and embrace freedom in Christ." from the article below.

What is a Stronghold?:

A stronghold is a faulty thinking pattern based on lies and deception.

One of the most common strongholds in peoples lives is an incorrect image in your mind. We develop a distorted view of who God is, and how He sees us. People begin to see God as a taskmaster and subsequently live their lives with an unhealthy fear of God.

A Powerful Prayer to Break Generational Curses

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’" Exodus 34:6-7 ESV

Generational curses are behaviors we adopt because of the environment we are brought up in. Addictions and abuses can influence our behavior, but ultimately, we all have the choice to shake off those chains and embrace freedom in Christ. “The sins of the fathers are punished in the children through becoming the children’s own sin,” John Piper explains, “the hatred of God is the embodiment of what the father’s problem was.” Consequences for repeated sins are definitely generational. God proclaimed to Moses in the verses above He would not leave the guilty unpunished. Why would He want His children to continue on in deplorable habits that would bring them no true happiness or satisfaction? God so love the world, He sent His only Son to save us. (John 3:16) He is slow to anger, always good, and He provided a way for us to break the curse of sin we are all born under.." from the article:

How Can Demonic Strongholds be Overcome?

"Before demonic strongholds can be overcome, we should understand exactly what demonic strongholds are. The word stronghold appears only once in the New Testament (2 Corinthians 10:4), and the Greek word translated “stronghold” means “a fortification such as a castle.” In this passage, the apostle Paul is instructing the church at Corinth on how to fight against and “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5). They do this, not by using the weapons of the world, but by “divine power.” Lofty arguments and opinions are the result of pride and evil and vain imaginations, the very strongholds in which demons reside. This, then, is the essence of demonic warfare—the power of God to overcome the strongholds of demons.

In Ephesians 6:10–18, Paul describes the resources that God makes available to His followers—the armor of God. Here we are told how, in an attitude of humility and dependence, we are to avail ourselves of God’s resources. Note that we are to be strong “in the Lord” and “in the power of His might.” We do not take on demonic strongholds in our own strength. We protect ourselves with the first five pieces of defensive armor and wield the one offensive weapon—the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. We do all of this “with all kinds of prayers and requests . . . praying for all the Lord’s people” (verse 18). In verses 12 and 13 of Ephesians 6, Paul writes, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

One habit that every believer needs to develop is focusing on Ephesians 6:10–18 and “getting dressed” spiritually every day. It would go a long way to giving victory over the devil and his schemes. Here Paul states that, while we walk in the flesh (we are living and breathing in this human body), we do not war according to the flesh (we can’t fight spiritual battles with fleshly weapons). Instead, as we focus on the resources and weapons of spiritual strength, we can see God give us victory. No demonic stronghold can withstand praying Christians wearing the full armor of God, battling with the Word of God, and empowered by His Spirit." from the article: How can demonic strongholds be overcome?
