His Art Is So INSANE Everyone Thinks It’s AI

"Nemo Gould is a kinetic assemblage sculptor who turns found objects, discarded tools, machine parts, trophies, toys, and trash into strange mechanical creatures that light up, move, and feel alive. In a world increasingly flooded with AI-generated images, Nemo’s work can look almost impossible, but every piece is built by hand.

In this short documentary, we visit Nemo’s studio and explore the world of an artist who has spent his life taking things apart, finding hidden potential inside broken objects, and rebuilding them into interactive sculptures full of humor, motion, satire, and wonder.

Nemo describes himself as a “pretty accomplished hoarder,” but his collections of parts are the raw material for something far more meaningful: a lifelong practice of reclaiming the physical world. His kinetic sculptures use real light, real sound, real switches, real mechanisms, and thousands of hours of hand-built craft.

From his childhood fascination with taking apart toys and appliances, to his time as an artist-in-residence at the San Francisco dump, Nemo’s work asks a surprisingly urgent question: what are we losing when convenience, screens, and artificial images replace the joy of making something real?

This is a portrait of an artist building strange machines, mechanical creatures, and handmade sculptures that remind us what wonder feels like.

Portraits of Another Life is a documentary series about artists, makers, and people who have chosen lives shaped by craft, discipline, and meaning." from the video introduction
