Video from Inspiring Philosophy
"American Christianity has sold us a lie, which is that following Jesus about money. This could not be further from the truth and I would say is actually a satanic Gospel. In this video I hope to correct the way many people look at Jesus and the Gospel." from video introduction.
There are many American Christians that believe: “Jesus became poor so that we might become rich. We are not meant to suffer. God has not destined us for anything but riches and health. Suffering, pain, and poverty are not the portion of a true believer because Jesus died to purchase those things for us.”
The reality is when the passion for material things becomes the goal, God and his word become means. The prosperity gospel turns Jesus into a merchant so that his word becomes merely a manual for mammon, to riches, fitness and good health. Ministry becomes a business. Preachers become mercenary see preaching as a way to make money.
Thus in Americas consumer culture in tandem with biblically illiterate church goers we have Christians doing performance art to meet God's rules for prosperity.
We must help those being swept away by false teaching, with gentleness and patience. We must open up the whole Bible so that they see that it is all about Christ and God’s great plan of redemption. And guard our hearts we do not enter into the same sins. Jesus said, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).
