Is Sickness from God or Satan?
According to Luke, a Gentile physician, Jesus credited Satan for the malady of the bent-over woman whom He healed. Luke himself commented that her sickness was “caused by a spirit.” And, according to Dr. Luke’s recounting in Acts 10 of Peter’s sermon to Cornelius’ household, Peter believed that all sickness was “oppression by the devil.” For those biblical reasons and others, it is safe to say that, although all sickness is permitted by God, the source is Satan. And that fact has important theological and practical ramifications for followers of Christ, and particularly those who need healing.
