Just Love Somebody | July 29, 2025 - Carter Conlon

"When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, His answer was beautifully simple—and profoundly life-altering:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength—and love your neighbor as yourself.”

But what if you don’t love yourself? What if you’ve grown up thinking that “self” is something to crucify, deny, even despise?

That’s where I started too. But then the Lord began to show me—He wasn’t asking me to love the old me. He was giving me permission to love the new me—the new creation He’s shaping day by day, from the inside out. And when I began to see what God was doing in me, I started seeing others with new eyes too.

This devotional is about how that transformation changes everything. It changes how you see prisoners in a cell. How you view strangers in the crowd. How you treat the lonely man at a small-town tent meeting. It changes how you value the one, even when everyone else is jostling for the attention of the many.

Jesus always stopped for the one.

And if you truly love Him, that same heart will begin to beat in you. You’ll find yourself loving people—not as a task, but as a joy. You’ll hear someone’s pain behind their silence. You’ll see the need behind their anger. And you’ll know exactly what to do:

Love them. Just love somebody.
