Kate Newby, The Sound of Trees
"This short documentary follows the making of The Sound of Trees, a permanent public artwork by Kate Newby for Portland International Airport (PDX).
Filmed throughout the project's development, the documentary traces Newby's process, from collecting materials and working with clay to fabrication, firing, and installation. Materials are embedded in clay, melted into glaze, and shaped through processes of reworking, squashing, and, at times, literally walking across the raw clay surface.
Set within the transformation of Portland International Airport, The Sound of Trees reflects the textures, rhythms, and atmosphere of Oregon's landscape. The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at the craft, collaboration, and care required to realize a permanent artwork that will welcome travelers for years to come." from the video introduction
