Ordinary Days, Extraordinary God

If you have any goals strive to be ordinary.

Yes, we must work hard to steward what God has given us and give our employer an honest day's work but in the midst of that, we must be ordinary.

We know God gives us gifts and sometimes talents and we must use those to the service of others and the praise and worship of our Lord. Some people are given the gifts and ambition to excel yet they are soon forgotten by the world.

There is nothing wrong with doing well and excelling. But excellence quickly becomes an idol we pursue all our lives with no satisfaction.

1 Thessalonians 4: 11-12

11 and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, 12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

We often think the commandment to take the Gospel into the world involves being seen and heard. Paul realized something different. Paul had seen that the most lasting influence will often come through unseen, unknown, and uncelebrated lives that are lived quietly in the shadows.

You can live a quiet life for Christ, helping those around you in your little kingdom. We underestimate the power and value of serving our family members, for helping neighbors or friends with their challenges and adversities in life. Just be there for them, and do what you can.

Above all else maintain your relationship with your Lord. Pray, confess, repent, and honor Christ in everything.

God is living in the ordinary, in your ordinary.
