All of us if God to choses will see our body breakdown and die. Death is never far away. Our lives are a vapor.
Many people suffer from many things as the "futility" that infiltrated the world of the Powers & Principalities) after Sin entered the world stalks us. None of us will avoid it, no matter what you eat or how much you exercise, or what you do or don't do age/disease/wear and tear will assault your body and mind.
Christ who stands now as True Humanity suffered and experienced great pain and humiliation. We will never know. Even those with chronic terminal conditions like ALS don't approach the level of suffering Christ did.
Why do God’s children undergo adversity, suffering, and deadly peril? Paul tells us clearly: “to make us rely not on ourselves but on God”
2 Corinthians 1:9 9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
C.S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world” -The Problem of Pain. God uses our suffering to bring us to the end of ourselves, through exhaustion and back to Christ. I have been given 4 Cancers in the past 26 years and in that experience which is ongoing Christ has brought me and my wife into his presence.
Our need for our Lord is constant, daily, moment by moment. But even without Cancer or ALS we should be focused on our Lord!
Pray for the people you know with chronic disease or pain, ask Christ to heal them to give them comfort, He is always listening.
