Modern Paganism and Our Perseverance in Discipleship
"16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor." 1 Peter 2:16-17
America is in the throws of being re-paganised.
The hedge of protection that God has had around us for many years is being withdrawn as people trun away from Christ and into sin.
Like ancient Israel even though God pleads with us we do not listen but pursue sin and evil.
Our social/religious institutions, organizations, and national traditions are in transition, caught up in the messiness of losing the Christian foundations that made them exceptional.
Just as the early church confronted an unbelieving and hostile world we also must embed ourselves in the fabric of society and live freely “as servants of God.”
We must live a life of Christian obedience: we must fear God, honor the emperor, love the church and honor all people.
Fearing God means knowing His sovereign providential rule over our lives and that our sins both mental and overt are before his eyes every moment of the day. Knowing this we humble ourselves in repentance and prayer seeking his wisdom everyday.
This also means we are keen to bring the Gospel before our friends and neighbors who do not know Christ. And we do this in many ways.
Discipleship then is at the forefront of our mission no matter where we find ourselves.
We must help those around us to cultivate a sincere commitment to Christ and Christian doctrines. Only when people are deeply invested in their faith can they confront intellectual challenges, social pressures, and even martyrdom.
Christian theologians of the early church knew that political power was meant to curb sin and establish law and order, even though it was often abused. They respected those in authority even though they were persecuted by them.
Today paganism is filling in the void left behind by the collapse of the church in America. Many people, many Christians seek to tear down government yet have nothing to replce it with. This is anarchy and God will allow us to harm ourselves if we persist in our foolish ways.
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise, - Proverbs 24:21
To save our land we must be humble and repent of our individualism and materialism and seek our Lord!
