"Optimization” Is Destroying Humanity

"We live in a world that celebrates efficiency over everything else. But efficiency is never supposed to be the goal, it's just meant to be the process to achieve the goal. And unfortunately because society is so blinded by efficiency we are losing out on beauty, because beauty is deemed useless and inefficient. But while beauty may not be more profitable in the short term, it is certainly more profitable in the long term. Which is why renaissance buildings that are over 500 years old continue to generate billions of dollars in tourism per year, while "efficient" buildings are demolished within 50 years.

In this video I go over the importance of beauty, craft and attention to detail, and the three principles we can learn from the renaissance era when it comes to how we approach our lives and our work, to not just find success but build something beautiful, meaningful and impactful for ourselves and society at large." from the video introduction
