Our Regrets & The God Who Remembers and Forgets
Most of us are haunted by the sins of our past. We revisit our failures of the distant past as well as our most recent.
This world although God's world is partially under the influence of Satanic powers and principalities. We post-moderns have dismissed the reality of spiritual warfare to our detriment. This means that very real and evil invisible entities are at work constantly to harm us and undermine our faith in Christ.
One of the things these entities does is to discourage us as we become obcessed with our past failures and sins.
The fact is we choose this downward spiral of self condemnation and the world reinforces it.
Nostalgia for What It's Worth
Fond memories of our past connect us to how our lives have unfolded, what our on going story has encompassed. But our memories are not very good and we santitize the past forgetting the anxiety and stress we felt. We must remember our loved ones, our accomplishments, our struggles, our sins and through our relationship with Christ and the cross relagate them to the past as we move toward eternity.
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," Romans 8:1
Through Christ our past, all of it, is no longer a condemnation. The God who loves us removes what stands between each one of us and Him.
Our memory is part of our identity, our unique selves, but it is not ultimate, it is flawed by not only our sin but our wasting away day by day.
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3
Our lives, our identity is covered by Christ as our intercessor and savior. In eternity, outside of space and time we will be able to understand God's involvement in every aspect of our lives.
"for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust." Psalm 103:14
Christ has perfect forgetfullness as does the Father. Our confessed sins are forgotten.
Your future death and instant appearance before Christ will reveal that not only does God remember you but he as forgotten all tha you currently ponder and feel remorse about.
Pray for the strength to put your broken past behind you and be present now with Christ and all those that surround you.
