R. H. Ives Gammell: The 'Twilight of Painting' and a Legacy.
"R. H. Ives Gammell was born into a wealthy family in Providence, Rhode Island, However, his passion was to be an artist and not just an artist, but to be the best that his talent could take him. He sought training early and from his first approval by Joseph DeCamp to the glittering city of Paris and the rich artistic heritage within the ateliers and salon, it was all he wanted. Seeing the capital city before World War One and studying at the famed Julian Academie was all anyone could want. After returning to Boston Gammell sought further direction with William Paxton, a noted painter of portraits and Interior works. Gammell would follow his dreams through imaginative painting and the philosophy of Carl Jung's views of symbols and images of a spiritual nature, which helped Gammell to find his personal genre. After his many years of painting, he wrote 'Twilight of Painting', which became one of the most influential books on painting in the twentieth century." from the video introduction
