The Lost Art Of The Intellectual Life
"Today I wanted to discuss one of my favourite books of all time 'The Intellectual Life' by Antonin Sertillanges. As it outlines exactly how modern culture is going wrong when it comes to our approach to culture and specifically intellectual culture in our books, art, academia and philosophy. As we live in a time with so much informational abdundance, as we can access all the information in the world through our phones and tablets, yet it's resulted in a culture that produces hardly any new ideas. Most artists today sample previous art or critique previous ideas, same with our writers, with many of them sampling previous stories or critiquing and re-imaganing previous stories. But where are the new ones?
In Sertillanges book he doesn't just outline how we can rebuild an intellectual culture, but also how on an individual level we can improve our thinking ability and begin to produce better work ourselves, and cultivate our own intellectual life." from the video introduction
