The Truth of It: Is Social Media a Waste of Time?
"Learn discipline. There are more virtuous pursuits for your mind and time." from video introduction.
Martyn Iles answers the question by pointing out how generally undisciplined we all are. We are easily distracted and many people, many young men spend too much time online, playing video games, etc. THIS IS A WASTE OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME! Nothing inherently sinful in all of this. God put you here and paid for your sins with his blood on a cross for you to be a force for good in the world, not a level 10 champion of a video game.
You are not promised tomorrow!
You may die today!!
What is your relationship with your Lord?
If you die today what will be your explanation when you stand before him? How will you account for your time?
Social media can be a force for good, use it as such and then go out into the world, your family, and your neighborhood and serve others, be grateful, and be generous!
We never ask for discipline yet we desperately need it. Our sinful natures tend to rule us.
“when I became a man, I gave up childish ways” of thinking about such discipline:1 Corinthians 13:11. As we mature we should learn to value the benefit of submitting to discipline, especially the discipline of the Lord.
Pursue spiritual maturity and do not allow your flesh’s short-term objections and bankrupt desires to dictate your spiritual progress (Romans 6:12). Don't settle for occasional or shallow joys in God. “Let us press on to know the Lord” (Hosea 6:3) and “take hold of that which is truly life” (2 Timothy 6:19)!
