It seems that with each of these two areas of discussion there are hot buttons, or you could say, land mines. If you step on one of them, there’s a great explosion of words, people take sides, and there is no profit to the conversation that follows. I’m giving you fair warning that we are about to touch on a topic that for some people is a very hot button. When it comes to the ancient past, before the creation of the world and mankind, there are two basic viewpoints: Old Earth Creationists and New Earth Creationists. Neither of these two groups believe that mankind naturally evolved from space dust, but rather that there was divine design involved. Both groups believe that God the Father created everything by His Word, and through His Word, and for His Word (Colossians 1:16). The difference is this: Did it happen in six 24-hour periods, or did it happen through the eons of time? My Christian background is very conservative. I became a Christian at an early age and grew up in a Christian home where we attended church regularly. From those early years I was taught to check everything out with the Word of God, the Holy Bible. If the Bible said it, I believed it. And because of this, over the years much of my theology and my views have altered several times to align with the Bible. We should never have an opinion and try to prove it by taking scriptures out of context.
