There is much angst and hand wringing over what has happened recently in our nation with the storming of our Capitol.
Yet while we as Christians often participate in this “worry” God remains on his throne, sovereign and providential. All justice is ultimately his even if not addressed in the here and now.
Comparisons to the Fall of Rome may not be too far off. Having said that we as Christians are here in this time and place and we must live out our lives not as part of the “Bread and Circuses” but countercultural to it.
Being fearful is human but through Christ there is another way.
We must first be people of truth and integrity. Why? Because right now in our volatile culture even many Christians are prone to say one thing in private and one thing in public. Fear of confrontation and of discord, offending friends drives this. It seems we have become one with the world willing to tacitly approve of riots, death threats and many other lawless deeds to prop up our earthly savior/politicians.
Now let’s be honest a lot of Christians are fearful of people who for whatever reason have bought into crazy conspiracy theories of the calculated schemes of our president. Personality cults are driving much of our culture and politics as well. And yes, you can’t often reason with people who are convinced that a man is their savior, or he will save the country from the socialists. This is cult behavior.
Over the past year or more I have grown weary listening to the pundits and Christian commentators as they say over ad over that this is the most important election in our lifetime, it is they insist and guess what it isn’t. And all these alarmists will have forgotten what they said by this time next year as a new and more cataclysmic event comes along.
False prophets, many just con artists, many having been on TV or YouTube for years making claims, backtracking when the don’t come true, have a wide audience, many Christians who hang on every word.
As people of truth we acknowledge reality. We don’t keep claiming Trump will be president when clearly, he won’t be. We don’t continue to spread lies/false rumors about election fraud when we ourselves do not know if it is true or a falsehood spread by politicians. Gullibility then becomes a problem. We as people of truth must use Common Sense of Facts, which means we fact check, if we can’t we don’t buy into anything or we look at the character of those saying theses things. If they have a record of being dishonest, we have an answer.
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them”. ... 1 John 4:1-6
Objective truth says Joe Biden is president, millions of babies continue to be aborted, racial injustice is real and must be addressed just as the pandemic is killing thousands of Americans, many of them our friends as we waste our time with folly and lies. I know more than a dozen of my friends have died recently from Covid-19 in my community.
So stop tweeting or whatever you do about your earthly masters and start helping your neighbor. What needs to be done in your community? To be involved politically means you can network with other like-minded Christians to speak to legislature, senators or whomever to pursue justice legally and properly. Cynical rants about it not doing any good is the sinful world and the Father of Lies talking not Christ.
We as Christians are people of integrity, not people for a side, right or left or up or down. Not people for a politician but people for our Lord Christ Jesus.
