What is the Difference Between Justification and Sanctification

Time for some everyday theology.

"What is the difference between justification and sanctification? Why is it important to articulate the distinctions between these two doctrines rather than merging them together? Can a Christian be justified without being sanctified? Do we merit our sanctification or is it given to us? In this video, Matthew Barrett explains several notable distinctions between the doctrines of justification and sanctification and how both play significant roles in the lives of Christians." - from video introduction

Justification removes our guilt through Jesus Christ. Sanctification (the process of becoming more Christ-like) has the power of removing that daily stain of sin. Justification is something that occurs instantaneously and it's also something that happens through God.

Sanctification changes the entire person as sin is relegated to an inferior place in our lives.
