Why a Civil War Hymn Is Still Relevant

"During the height of the Civil War, and a deathly cholera epidemic, while pondering the death and suffering around him, Robert Lowry reportedly asked himself, “Shall we meet again at the river?” referring to the river of life in heaven. It was a hot summer day. And in 1864, while sitting at his small pump organ, he penned these lyrics we still sing today.
