Why your visual imagination is unique | Adam Zeman | TEDxLondonBusinessSchool

"What if everything you imagine feels as real as what you see? This talk explores the extraordinary power—and variability—of human imagination, from vivid mental imagery to the condition known as aphantasia. Discover why our inner world might be more real than we think. Adam Zeman trained in Medicine at Oxford University Medical School after earning a first degree in Philosophy and Psychology. A consultant neurologist in Edinburgh since 1996, he was also Professor of Neurology at Exeter University Medical School from 2005 to 2023. His clinical expertise includes cognitive and behavioural neurology, with a focus on neurological disorders of sleep.

With a strong research interest in amnesia associated with epilepsy and disorders of visual imagery, Adam has contributed to multiple research projects and published widely on the science and philosophy of consciousness. He authored Consciousness: A User’s Guide (Yale University Press, 2002), A Portrait of the Brain (Yale, 2008), and edited works like Epilepsy and Memory (OUP, 2012). Adam served as Chairman of the British Neuropsychiatry Association from 2007 to 2011." from the video introduction
