Will We Stand in the Gap or Will We Flee?

Be Strong in the Lord

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30 NIV)

We are all at different places in our spiritual life and in our development as a human being, an image bearer. It is clear from scripture that God has placed us here in this time and place for a reason, however small or large that may be. We are woven into Christs intricate tapestry of life. We are known by God, we are surrounded by angels.

Yet we often forget, due to our finiteness, our sin that we are co-creators with Christ.

Part of our growth as Christians is through Christ and the Person of the Holy Spirit. Through them we become more Christ-like over the brief lives we live.

That includes times where we with their help have the wisdom, love and courage to stand in the gap, whatever gap presents itself to us. And there may be many gaps that we do not see or ignore and someone else steps in, often unknown to us.

If we understand that there are times in everyone's life that are times Christ has brought to fruition then we start to see that God prepares us. It is never just up to us and our meager abilities.

Esther 4:14 14“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?”

So consider right now in your life what gap is open before you?

Is it a gap for family, friends, your church, your community?

How can you step in and make a difference? Can you present the gospel? Can you disciple someone? Will you say here I am send me?

Isaiah 6:8 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

I am not talking about big things but small things that are known only to God and those involved. Gaps in life are not isolated events they are daily.. they are constant. All of us have fled from the "gap" when we should have stayed. Remember none of us are righteous, not one. But our Lord is merciful and gracious and he gives us many chances and opportunities.

Romans 3:10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;

Ezekiel 22:29 29 The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice.

You see the sins of our nation, of all of us is present throughout society. Our daily walk with Christ and the Person of the Holy Spirit, though prayer, confession and repentance is how we recognize the gap and stand in it. Our strength, our intelligence, gifts by themselves are totally inadequate.

Ezekiel 22:30 30 And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.

Reflect on your life, right now, is there a gap our Lord is waiting for you to stand in?
