Be a Steward of the Truth
John 15:26
When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father-the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father-he will testify about me.
You are the keeper of your story. For as long as God permits you to live you have a responsibility to be morally responsible, virtuous, and truthful. That lifelong process of spiritual growth begins by understanding that what you are in private, what is at the center of your heart is what God sees. Our secret, silent, and private sins are hidden from no one. When we think or overtly commit sins, we do two things: we deny God’s omnipotence and we go against his absolute righteousness.
When we sin, when we are less than truthful, less than ourselves we exile ourselves from this world and the people in it. Sin whether public or private changes reality. We cannot see this reality because we are blinded by the God of this world and by our own brokenness, our sin, we see the world through a glass darkly.
God the Father, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are personal to and interact with all of us. God’s Holy Word tells us as part of our makeup, part of the breath of life he breaths into us before birth contains what He calls the Candle of the Soul. This aspect or essence of our being permits God the Father, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit to access our innermost thoughts ALL the time, day, and night for our entire life.
Therefore, scripture says even the most secret thoughts will be judged. God knows YOU; He knows your story. In the Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan tells the children when they point to someone else’s sins, “What is it to you, I only know your story.” Our stories are Unique in ways we cannot begin to fathom. Genetically we are unique, there will be no other humans born with our soul. Even twins possess unique aspects that will never be repeated.
Stewarding the Truth is not a matter of education, birth, or social status. We are personally incapable of grasping or even coming close to understanding the truth or anything for that matter. It is ONLY by the indwelling of the person of the Holy Spirit and Christ’s access to your inner selves that we even glimpse the truth of life.
John 14:6 (God the Son): Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
In his book, Spiritual Depression, Martin Lloyd-Jones stated,
“You have to take yourself in hand, you have to address yourself, preach to yourself, question yourself. You must say to your soul: ‘Why art thou cast down — what business have you to be disquieted?’ You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself, condemn yourself, exhort yourself, and say to yourself: ‘Hope thou in God’ — instead of muttering in this depressed, unhappy way. And then you must go on to remind yourself of God, Who God is, and what God is and what God has done, and what God has pledged himself to do.”
