Children's books that inspire whimsy, ingenuity, self-reliance, empathy and curiosity
"The books encountered in early childhood can profoundly affect one's personality, interests, values and outlook. In this video, I'll share some of the classic children's books that defined, challenged, inspired and grounded me during my first seven years as a reader.
Some of the books are still in print, but far too many aren't. I hope publishers take notice and bring them back, even if only in digital formats.
I've organized the video by the lessons and perspectives the books taught me.
1:28 Whimsy, judgment & heroism
2:25 Confidence & analytic thinking
3:18 Ingenuity, self-reliance & constructive contrariness
5:32 Empathy
6:43 Human darkness
7:09 Love of learning
10:17 All of the above
