Hidden Medieval Wall Paintings Inside a 1,000-Year-Old Norman Church
"Step inside St Nicholas Church in Charlwood, a beautiful Norman parish church built shortly after the Battle of Hastings.
In this walk-through, we explore nearly 1,000 years of history — from the ancient wooden door and Norman arches, to nationally significant medieval wall paintings, the rood screen, memorial brasses, and the funerary helmet near the altar.
Outside, we take a look around the churchyard, including the remarkable yew tree believed to be over 1,000 years old, and the historic Grade II listed path leading into the church, thought to date from the 1660s.
St Nicholas Church is not just a building, but a living record of village life, faith, and continuity across the centuries.
This video is perfect for anyone interested in English history, Norman churches, medieval art, or peaceful heritage spaces." from the video introduction
