God Bless Mothers

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

We live in a culture of entitlement.

The family, mothers, and fathers have been degraded and diminished.

But the family was God's idea and blessing for us.

So on Mother’s Day, it’s too easy to believe the marketing slogans that we are entitled to feel significant and worthy through elaborate displays of appreciation.

Mother’s Day gifts or gifts/gestures of any kind as a means of giving us a sense of worth, will always leave us depleted, and empty. We so easily forget the true source of our value and satisfaction: “I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. . . . Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you” (Isa. 43:3–4).

Mothers have many things to do like folding laundry, dinner to make, beds to make, and diapers to change to name but a few. All of Mom's hard work is an undeserved blessing from God. The reality we have children to raise and minister to, and share the Word with is also an undeserved blessing from God. God gives mothers the grit and grace for this marvelous calling.

Mothers profoundly influence their children in the big things and in the small things in life. Always there often unnoticed Moms are a great blessing.

Her children rise up and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praises her. (Proverbs 31:28)

In God’s kingdom, it is not the well-known, but the obscure; not the woman on magazine covers or in the movies but the movies, but the woman bandaging an injured knee and wiping away the tears.

So let us honor our Mom's every day with love and appreciation for all they do and have done for us and others.
