How the News is Toxic to our Souls

“You will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:29–30).

We all know that we are stressed out. We all know that we incessantly check the news etc. when we should not. 2020 was a whirlwind of adversity, stress and sometimes death and 2021 may be little different.

The slowdown from the pandemic has in many ways been a blessing and a wake up call to all of us who believe we are invincible and can continue in what we were doing.

God is sending us a message but are we listening? Have you actually changed your habits, your way of thinking? Are you appreciating life more, relishing time with family and with your Lord in prayer more?

Over time, information pollution or just too much data leads to the overstimulation of the brain. Neurons get overloaded with data, numbers, deadlines, targets to be met, projects to be completed or simply useless details, and all this unnecessary information can ultimately harm them. The result of a stressed and overloaded brain is a high risk of dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases).

Statistically the average daily information dumped on a social network user is 54,000 words, equal to the length of the average novel. Unplug from the internet and/or social media FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH.

You and I cannot bear all the stress and consternation of the world’s problems. Only God is capable of that. You cannot work hard enough; you are not smart enough to fix everyone and everything. God has placed you where you are with the people around you as your mission field. Forget the news and focus on them, their needs, and the condition of their soul.

Do they need to understand the gospel? Then help them do so.

Your time is now. Put down the worlds burdens and seek Christ and disciple those around you!
