Inside a Century-Old Gilded Age Mansion Filled With Priceless Art | Vogue

"Aimee Ng, the Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator at the Frick, takes Vogue on a tour of one of New York City’s most beautiful museums, the newly renovated Frick Collection. The first piece Aimee takes us to is a portrait of the Honorable Frances Duncombe by Thomas Gainsborough, which lives in the family’s dining quarters. Sitting in the West Vestibule of the museum is a series of four paintings by François Boucher called The Four Seasons, painted in a style that was highly influential in Vivienne Westwood’s designs. Next, Aimee points out one of the Vermeer paintings that sits in the hallway, “Officer and Laughing Girl.” A master of light, Vermeer portrays a sun-filled domestic space with a woman and a man enjoying a glass of wine. Aimee takes us through much more of the beautifully adorned space, showcasing objects like a Rembrandt self-portrait and a prison-bound secrétaire once owned by Marie Antoinette." from the video introduction
