Intellectual Technologies and the Near Future - What is Possible?

Humans has the habit of using our technology to put the world God has created for us out of sight out of mind and then fleeing into an alternative reality we create for ourselves.

We create those alternative realities through drugs, alchohol, sex and more recently we have tacked technology onto the list.

The easy button is just to tempting.

Virtual reality further seperates us from our God.

Recognizing that technology is a gift from God that allows us to do many good thinks across the board including medical advances. The example below of how AI reduces test time from weeks to minutes in real time is truly a gift!

If you have not noticed the voices shouting loudest right now about AI are concerned AI will destroy us or harm us in some way.

A valid concern!

Will we set it free so to speak or will we set up guardrails? Time will tell.

We Have Allowed Technology to Corrupt Us Already?!

There is no disagreement that technology by way of the internet and by way of social media has corrupted humanity.

WE all have given in to our worst selves within this technology.

If there are any positives to social media it is we can spread the Gospel through it.

Now we have a very invasive and insidious AI technology that WE are programing to corrupt us even more.

Can we be morally and ethically responsible with AI?

I doubt it and no doubt there are people and nations alreayd putting AI to crimnal and evil ends.

Yet for all of that we must also embrace and work hard to do the right and righteous thing with this gift of AI.

The Power of ‘Intellectual Technologies’

"Christopher Nolan’s 2010 film Inception is a brilliant, often uncomfortable portrayal of a future world where sophisticated technology has unlocked the ability for people to escape reality. Through a fictional “dream-sharing” device, the characters in Inception can create, manipulate, and even invade people’s dreams. At one point in the movie, the heroes visit a scientist with the skill to make a sedative that allows for even more powerful and vivid dream-sharing. Upon seeing dozens of people in the scientist’s basement sleeping on beds, connected to the dream-sharing devices, one character asks, “These people come here to fall asleep?” The scientist answers, “They come here to wake up. The dream has become their reality.”

The writers of Inception used a science-fiction context to make a profound observation about human nature. If we can, we humans will tend to use our technology to put the world God has given us at a distance, and flee into an alternative reality that suits us. Although dream-sharing is the stuff of fantasy, there are indeed sophisticated technologies that bestow a godlike ability to create and inhabit our own universe. In fact, one of these technologies is probably in your hands or your pocket right now.

The Web, the smartphone, and social media together make up nothing less than a cultural revolution. For hundreds of millions of people, they represent the primary point of interaction with the world. We now work, learn, listen, debate, recreate, and even worship through the Internet. Given the radical novelty and enormous imprint of this technology on nearly every facet of our lives, shouldn’t we regularly be asking questions like, What kind of medium is this? Is there something here that may be influencing me at a near-undetectable level?

In fact, the answers to these questions may distress us.." from the article: The Power of ‘Intellectual Technologies’

Humane's Mission:

"We believe in building innovative technology that feels familiar, natural, and human.

Technology that improves the human experience and is born from good intentions.

Products that put us back in touch with ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

Humane: Secret Tech Company Poised to Change the World

Video from Sam Sheffer

"(2022) Humane. What happens when 60 former Apple employees come together to start a new kind of tech company? In this video, I tell you everything I know about this secretive technology startup, what I think they're building, and why I think they're gonna change the world." from video introduction

Humane, a secretive AI startup founded by ex-Apple employees, raises another $100M

"A startup founded by ex-Apple design and engineering team Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, Humane, today raised another $100 million to build what it calls an “integrated device and cloud services platform” for AI.

Humane’s work is shrouded in mystery. But its latest round of funding, a Series C, attracted a laundry list of notable investors, including Kindred Ventures (which led the round), SK Networks, LG Technology Ventures, Microsoft, Volvo Cars Tech Fund, Tiger Global, Qualcomm Ventures and OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman.

To date, Humane has raised $230 million from existing and previous investors, including Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Its workforce has grown correspondingly larger, now numbering exactly 200 employees...

..Noted blogger John Gruber paints a slightly different picture — one informed by a leaked copy of Humane’s 2021 pitch deck. He writes: “The deck describes something akin to a Star Trek communicator badge, with an AI-connected always-on camera saving photos and videos to the cloud, and lidar sensors for world-mapping and detecting hand gestures.”..

Video from ABNUX

In the video above Abhinav Chhikara talks about how the 2013 movie HER gives us a warm fuzzy look at AI. That was in 2013 and our outlook has certainly changed.

I missed this movie in 2013.

It is a well made movie from director Spike Jonze. You can watch it on Netflex.

"Her Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson Movie HD A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly-purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need." from video introduction

HER Review

"Spike Jonze's "Her" plays like a kind of miracle the first time around. Watching its opening shots of Joaquin Phoenix making an unabashed declaration of eternal love to an unseen soul mate is immediately disarming. The actor is so unaffected, so sincere, so drained of the tortured eccentricity that's a hallmark of most of the roles that he plays. It's like falling into a plush comforting embrace. Then one understands that the declaration isn't his, but something he, or rather, his character, Theodore, does for his job..." from the article: HER
