One the things that has long attracted young men to what Jordan Peterson has to say is he says it to them in much the way a Father of mentor would. In the video response below Doug Wilson asks the hard question why aren't Christians and Churches doing this?
One of Peterson’s key phrases is: “Ask more of them than anyone ever has.” This is valuable wisdom has informed many successful religious movements in history. Christ Himself declared: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” We all know that ambivalence, low commitment, ambiguity and minimal expectations is death a spiritual community, yet the Church in America has been terrible in this regard.
Men often dislike church and as Doug Wilson points out the perception is we must check our masculinity in a the front door.
yet we can't lay all the blame on the church. Men are also the blame in their low commitment and apathy. Most men spend large amounts of time on entertainment, hobbies etc. but basically coast by their faith commitments.
And our longstanding consumer/part time Christianity has lead many to believe we can give our relationship with Christ a small portion of our attention and God will be ok with that. He is NOT!
The Body of Christ by and large in America is shallow and uninterested.
