On Humming “A Mighty Fortress” Through Your Masks - Doug Wilson

Galatians 5:1 5 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Pastor Wilson equates getting a vaccine with slavery. Is this true? Slavish obedience? I dare lean into some what-about-ism and point with laser focus to Trump and all the many people who even now slavishly jump for his every call or do whatever foolish and (illegal thing he asks) because they believe he is sent by God. yes I know he is a Cyrus but don't forget Cyrus was a punishment!

I admire Pastor Wilson's wisdom and zeal yet I often disagree with him. I completely understand his concerns about government overreach. In this video he also points out that not caring about who dies and not getting a vaccine are not connected, it's not that simple he says.

I disagree and say "Yes it is that simple." We are always looking for exceptions to the rule, fallen human nature. I don't think I am going to far when I say that many American even Christians are indifferent to the welfare of those around them. I contend if we are so foolish to connect our freedom to wearing a mask or getting a vaccine we need to get a life and reexamine our priorities. There are big things and there are small things in life and this is not one of the big things. We should put as much energy into helping the poor and homeless in our community!

Perhaps I am as Pastor Wilson says I am a pastor who does not see the wolves or that slavery is bad, perhaps, perhaps not!

"The Warrenton Declaration on Medical Mandates, Biblical Ethics, & Authority was created in order to provide doctrinal clarity and coherence on issues of biblical authority and ethics related to medical mandates. The declaration seeks to equip local churches and their officers in providing transparency on where they stand and to assist individuals who are being mistreated in their churches with a well-ordered summary of belief in this regard." from the website.

"God is the source of all human authority, which He divides into three spheres: family (or individual), ecclesiastical, and civil. Each sphere benefits when it honors the others and observes the boundaries established by God between them.

Over the last eighteen months, COVID-19 and the civil authority’s responses to it have intensified already deepening discord between these spheres. Our government has supplied ever-changing information and introduced extreme countermeasures which it claims are justified by science. However, while science serves well as a counselor to the civil authority, it must also be weighed prudently with the adverse consequences of countermeasures. Under the current circumstances, it is our judgment that COVID-19 health risks and the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines do not justify the recent vaccine mandates decreed by the civil government and that such mandates exceed the civil government’s God-ordained jurisdiction. The decision whether or not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine properly rests with the conscience of the individual or of the father and mother for their children.

While we acknowledge the right of an individual to conscientiously object to this intrusion on individual authority, we do so noting that there is no Biblical requirement always to refuse compliance to a command from an authority who oversteps his bounds..." from the website.

"CREC Issues Religious Exemption Statement for Medical Procedures

AUGUST 19, 2021

In view of increasingly widespread measures in the USA and elsewhere enforcing mandatory vaccinations, the presiding ministers of the CREC have issued a statement defending liberty of conscience regarding mandatory medical procedures.

The statement also includes a form that can be filled out by local church leadership to provide individuals with proof of their churches’ position..." from the website.
