God's Gift of Music: The Power of Music in Dementia

"Undergrad capstone for NAU public health students Katie Reed, Kelsey Adams, Alyssa Trinidad, and Kassidy Mcafee. This was a health promotion program that used music therapy with dementia and Alzheimer's patients to increase emotional wellness and memory recall. We do not own the rights to any of the music used in this film." from video introduction.

Music is one of God's greatest gifts to us his image bearers!

The Angels sang in Job38:7

When the morning stars sang together

And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

God gave us music and it is one of the most transcendent experiences we have in our lives. When we hear music we are often carried to a time past, we are soothed and we are comforted. God brings all good things to his children.

Aside from our sense of "smell", the music invokes memories more than anything else.

In this video we see how music comforts someone with dementia, helping her to access memories and bring her comfort.
