Praying Daily to God the Father, Christ Jesus & The Person of the Holy Spirit

We forget that God the Father, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are persons. In that understanding they are persons in a similar sense that we are persons, so we can speak to them individually.

In the the New Testament the pattern we see is to pray to God the Father in the name of the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. So we pray "in the Spirit" in Ephesians 6:18.

Before He returned to His Father in Heaven at the Ascension, Jesus told His disciples that He would send His Holy Spirit as their comforter and guide. He also ordered them not to leave Jerusalem. Then after Christ ascended into Heaven, the disciples returned to the upper room and spent ten days in prayer.

On the tenth day: "Suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim".

If we "Pray in the name of Jesus," we are praying on the basis of what Jesus has done to make our access to God possible." Jesus did that through his blood and righteousness. Subsequently, when we say "In Jesus' name" at the end of a prayer we mean "because Jesus died for me and rose again, covered my sins, and imparted and imputed righteousness to me, I have access to the Father."

So when we pray every day in our ongoing conversation with God we pray to the Father. Occasionally we can acknowledge the Personhood of Christ and the Holy Spirit expressing our own love for them. We tell the Holy Spirit and the Son that we love them and that we would like them to come in fully into our lives.

I have found that I can talk expressly to each person on and off each day because I know they are all involved with my life and the lives of those around me. Don't neglect the other persons of the Godhead!
